Thinking about taking off on a motorcycle road trip in INDIA…

Then you should be well informed and prepared. Following are some travel information and other important sources that we’ve put together for you. Additionally, we are always happy to help in clarifying any questions you may have and it’s easy – we are only a click or phone call away.


Visa – All Non-Indian citizens require a visa. Please contact the Indian embassy in your country to find out how to get a visa for India.

Vaccinations – There are no prescribed vaccinations for India.

Persons coming from areas with yellow fever (determined countries in Africa, Central and South America), require a valid international vaccination passport.

However, it is generally recommended to vaccinate oneself against Tetanus, Diphtheria, Polio, Hepatitis A & B and Typhoid.

Since different aspects should be considered in individual cases, it is advisable to consult an experienced travel-medical physician or pharmacist 4-6 weeks before the journey. There are various opinions about the Malaria Prophilaxe, so we recommend to seek medical advice.

Weather –  The temperatures are in degrees Celsius and the rainfall in mm. Naturally we can not make any guarantees about the weather during your tour, but we can give you an idea of what it will be the temperatures like during that time of the year.

1) Requirements to rent an Enfield Motorcycle from Road & Chrome Motorcycling?

° The rider must be over 18 years of age.
° Have a valid Indian Visa.
° Must possess a valid driving license issued by his/her home country. Bring along your own helmet, or rent one from us.
° Give us details of your next of kin in home country along with complete address and phone numbers for contact in case of an emergency.

2) What are the documents relating to the motor cycle you have to check and carry with you when you rent an Enfield from Road & Chrome Motorcycling?

° Copy of Registration smart card
° Copy of Insurance Certificate
° Pollution Under Control certificate
° Sale Deed & Delivery Note

Sale Deed & Delivery note is a document that gives a temporary transfer of owner ship from the proprietor ( owner ) of “Roads and Chrome Motorcycling LLP” to you for a agreed sum, and a buy back.

3) What are the protective gear required for riding on the Indian roads?

° Helmet – Mandatory
° Jacket – Recommended
° Gloves – Recommended
° Knee pads – Recommended
° Riding Goggles – Recommended

4) What are the riding tips for India?

° Ride with head lamps on, use indicators & rear view mirrors.
° Always ride on the extreme left or centre lane of the road
° For overtaking another vehicle flash the high beam and wait till he gives you a hand signal. Some vehicles will switch on their left or right indicators as an “ approval “ to overtake them from the indicator flashing side
° It is recommended to overtake from the right side
° It is common though against the traffic rules for tractors, jeeps and sometimes trucks driving on the wrong side of the road, should you encounter them, do flash your head lamps to make them aware of your presence
° Follow traffic rules & speed limits. On highways its 90 Kmh and city it is 50 Kmh

5) Where do you fuel the motor bikes from?

Recommended fuel companies having fuel stations are:

° Hindustan Petroleum


6) What are the spares given along with the motor bike?

° Tool kit as given by Royal Enfield
° Emergency medical Kit
° Set of Fuses
° Clutch Cable
° Accelerator Cable
° Spark Plug

Additional spares like spare tyre, bulbs and engine oil can be provided on request.We will recommend list of Royal Enfield authorized dealers on your route, where you can get the motor bike repaired in case of any breakdown. All repair costs are to your account.

7) What happens in case of an accident ( RIDER or Pillion )?

° There is no liability of Roads and Chrome Motorcycling LLP as Tours & Rental company or its proprietor’s for loss of life, injury or any other damage to rider/pillion.
° If you are taking a guided tour / advisory from us, we will give numbers of hospitals / emergency numbers for assistance.
° Every National Highway displays numbers to be dialed in case of emergency / accident. Wherever available with us, we will assist with, however recommend that you note down these numbers when you come across the number boards.
° If on a toll road or expressway, toll road company / NHAI ( National Highway Authority of India ) have ambulance services that will take you to nearest Government Hospital.
° On reaching the hospital, get medical aid and inform us. If you are in a remote town, village or smaller city, we will assist in transferring you from Government Hospital to Private Hospital to nearest Metro City for better medical aid. The charges involved/incurred in such a case are to be borne by you. This service is on a non commercial basis.
° We have a tie up with Reputed Private Hospital in our base cities of New Delhi.

8) What happens in case of damage to the bikes or if the bikes need repair?

All damages are to account of rider, at the time of by back, repair charges will be deducted from deposit. If the motor bike is damaged beyond repair, entire deposit will be forfeited.

9) What about food and water?

°It is recommended to carry your own water. Indian brands like Himalayan, Bisleri, Aquafina ( Pepsi Co ) Kinley ( Coca Cola ) and Aqua are available in most of the places.
° Depending upon the route you wish to take, we can suggest food joints (Dhabhas – pronounced as Dhaa baaa) en route.
° In our base cities, we can suggest from Fine Dining to budget eating places

10) How and when do you pay?

° Payment for rentals are to be made in advance (100%). Interest free refundable deposit for motor bike (EURO 2000) at time of delivery.
° If taking guided tour or booking special Road Captain service, 100% advance for entire trip costing. Due to any personal or any sudden changes you wish to cancel the tour, the deposit will be non refundable. 
° Roads & Chrome Motorcycling accepts the following methods of payment: Cash, Cheque, Wire Transfer, Travellers Cheque or Paypal.

From the New Delhi IGI Airport ( Terminal 3 ) it is advisable to take a Radio cab. These are air-conditioned cabs that go by the meter and are highly recommended. In addition to the fare, a parking charge of INR 80 is levied.


Should you want to take non-air conditioned ( Black & Yellow ) taxis, same are also available through a pre-paid counter at the airport terminal.


From the New Delhi railway station it is advisable that you have a radio taxi booked in advance. Black & Yellow taxis could operate without a meter.


Auto Rickshaws ( Tuk Tuks ) are also available, but it is advisable to use them only if the meters are working. Alternatively, price to be fixed prior hiring them.
